Newest Kaipalaoa Dresses!

Hope all of you had a wonderful Thanksgiving Holidays!
And now "that" is over, kind of mind blowing to think in about 3 weeks, it's almost Christmas... Wow! Are you ready? Well, if you're looking for that sepcial dress to wear, or that special present for her, here it is. Our newest dress style, the Kaipalaoa Dress is in the stores now.
The name of the dress is derived from the area in front of our current store which used to be a landing and village area called Kaipalaoa. This was the birthplace of Mary Kanaele, grandmother of Nalani Kanaka`ole, kumu hula of Halau O Kekuhi.

御無沙汰しておりますが皆様お元気ですか?
先週はサンクスギビング・デー(感謝祭)でしたので家族や友人と集まったりと忙しい仲にも楽しい祭日及び週末を過ごしてまいりました。でもこれが過ぎるとクリスマスまでなんと約3週間！まさに師走ですね。
さて、そんな季節にパーティーやプレゼントにぴったりの新スタイルが到着いたしました!こちらにあるKaipalaoa Dress/カイパラオア・ドレスはロング長けに丸首、ショルダーのカットが斜めになっております。早速某パーティーへ着ていきましたところ、とても反響良かったです♪
名前の由来はヒロ店の現在地の前辺りの土地が船着場又、小さな村であったそうなのですが、その場所の名前から付けられました。そしてここは、ハラウ・オ・ケクヒの元クムフラである、ナラニ・カナカオレの祖母であるメアリー・カナエレの生誕地でもあるそうです。

The November issue of the Honolulu Magazine is filled with lots of interesting reads! The cover story, "Where I'm From" gives you an intimate look into nine of the Hawai`i residents of prominence.
アローハ!11月号のホノルル・マガジンはカバーストーリーに、ハワイ州に住む9人の著名人の育った場所などをインタビューした「私の出身地」なる記事が載っています。これがけっこう面白いのです。


And one of them is Aunty Hokulani Holt-Padilla.Here, you can see her beautiful photo (p.95) dancing in our Sig Zane Designs' Vaihere Mu`u! Mahalo Aunty for selecting our dress for this image!
その9人のうちの一人にアンティー・ホクラニ・ホルト・パディラさんが選ばれています（p.95参照）。なんと彼女がこの撮影に選んだドレスが当社、シグ・ゼーン・デザインズのヴァイヘレ・ムウと呼ばれているドレスなのです!アンティーへ、素敵な写真に当社のドレスを選んでくださり有難う！

Mo`olahui Hawai`i by Nalani Kanaka`ole

Aloha! There are so many exciting things going on around town!
This month, Hawai`i Community College is hosting "Mo`olahui Hawai`i" to celebrate the Hawaiian culture and history, and as the top batter, Nalani Kanaka`ole gave a speech on the "Laws of Nature Through Mo`olelo". She shared her in depth knowledge about how our environment was goverened by laws that came down from nature gods.
アローハ!11月も半分終了し、あっという間に師走…ですね！皆様いかがお過ごしですか？
さて、今月はヒロにあるハワイコミュニティーカレッジにて一般公開されている「教室」があります。先日は先ずナラニ・カナカオレによる「モオレロを通じて知る自然界の法則」という講義を聴いて参りました。大変興味深くディープなハワイ文化に一瞬触れることができました！


And following Nalani's session a few days later was a report by Edward Halealoha Ayau, who is the director of Hui Malama, talking about "Honoring Kupuna", which was inspirational, to say the least!
Here, he can be seen with his wife and singer, Kainani Kahaunaele. A beautiful couple!

そして数日後、次はエドワード・ハレアロハ・アヤウ氏による「クプナを敬う」と言う講義を聴いて参りました。彼は弁護士であり、又「フイ・マラマ」 と言う団体のディレクターでもあり、なにしろ素晴しい勇気と決意を持たれたアクティヴィストでもあります。奥さんでもあり、シンガーとしても活躍中のカイナニ・カハウナエレさんと講義のあと一緒に写真を撮らせて頂きました。素敵なカップルですよね。

Hope everyone is having a great holiday weekend! I've been having a fabulous time here in Waikoloa at the Moku O Keawe International Festival. So here are photos to show what's been happening here!
First, the festival opened with wonderful music by the Lim Family, and Auntie Genoa Keawe...
皆様お元気ですか?こちらハワイ島ヒルトン・ワイコロアにてモク・オ・ケアヴェ・インターナショナル・フェスティバルが開催されており、速報で様子を写真で綴らせていただきます！
先ずはオープニングはリム・ファミリーとアンティー・ジェノアの素晴しい音楽でスタート致しました…


Next day, at Puniu Drum Workshop with Dr. Taupouri Tangaro as teacher, the students and Sig posed for me!
次の日、プニウ・ドラム(椰子の木で作る打楽器)のワークショップにて、講師のタウポウリ・タンガロ先生と生徒さん、そして覗きに来たシグと、はい、ポーズ！


And it was Sig's 24th (!!??) Birthday on the 9th. Here is the event's Master of Ceremonies Desiree Cruz, and one of the chief organizers of this event, Margo Mau Bunnell posing with the Birthday Boy, as we all got to celebrate the day together!
11月9日はシグの24歳(!?)のお誕生日だったので皆でお祝い！司会のデジレー・クルズさんと主催者代表のマーゴさんに囲まれて。


Here's me posing in front of our Sig Zane booth. It's at the Water's Edge Ballroom, so please come by to see not only our clothes, but other wonderful crafts and art works from around the island!
これはシグのブースの前で「いらっしゃいませ～」のポーズをとる私です！他にもとってもすてきな商品やアートがたくさん出店されておりました♪


And of course, the Halau O Kekuhi performed their electrifying Kahiko performance at the first night of the competition. It was awesome!

Here is the Limited Edition 1st Annual Moku O Keawe International Festival's Official T-shirt and Program!
This beautiful t-shirt is one of a kind... especially with the renowned Big Island artist Kathy Long's painting, which captures the spirit and excitement of hula.
This will be available at the Festival venue, which will be at the Hilton Waikoloa Village grounds! Opening Night Ceremony Concert is tonight at 7pm with Aunty Genoa Keawe, who will be performing for the ceremony.

Halau O Kekuhi at Moku O Keawe!!

Moku O Keawe International Festival is next week! This is going to be an exciting weekend starting from Nov. 8 throuth 12, and you can enjoy seeing performances of Halau O Kekuhi, as well as Na Lei O Kaholoku!
You can also check Halau O Kekuhi's performance from the famed Wolf Trap Festival this past September and get your excitement quotient up ready for next week!

ハラウ・オ・ケクヒの出演したウォルフ・トラップ芸術祭でのパフォーマンスをそれではこちらでご覧になって大会前の前夜祭という感じで盛り上がってくださいね！

Black & White Night 2006

Yes, the annual Balck & White Night is going to be held on Friday November 3rd from 5~9pm in downtown Hilo! Our store is now dressed in the theme color of Black and White... our staff contributed these memorabilias that are now displayed in our window, so make sure to come stop by to see them!

明日11月3日金曜日午後5時から9時までダウンタウンヒロで行われる恒例行事、「ブラック＆ホワイト・ナイト」が開催されます！毎年、11月の最初の金曜日は夜になると黒と白の色にドレスアップした人たちで一杯になるんです。ダウンタウンヒロの活性化の一環の行事として行われており音楽の生演奏など普段とは違うヒロの町を垣間見ることができることでしょう。当店はウィンドウディスプレイのみの参加となりますが、当社員の思い思いの品が陳列されています。ちなみに私の参加品はピアノのワンピースです！
