Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving Day!
Here is the final report on the Moku O Keawe International Festival's last event day which was the Hoike Night.
Enjoy the photos, and a hui hou!
Here, photographed is one of Sig Zane Designs' employees, Emery Aceret's Halau Ola Pua O Uluhaimalama!

Dr. Tangaro Taupouri's Puniu Workshop gave an intense performance by their participating students.

Iliahi Anthony demonstrates a dance utilizing `uli`uli. She taught the students how to make the implement during the workshop.

Kumu Charles Kaupu and his Oli Workshop students do a chant performance.

Kumu Keala Ching's Hula Pahu Workshop students took the stage and gave an impressive show of what they learned during the 2 days.

A Tribute to Kumu Jay Jay Akiona of Kona was performed by the Halau Kukui Malamalama O Kona, lead by Kumu Hulla Ka`iliwai.

Kumu Hauoli Akaka's workshop class perfoms the Hula Kahiko that he taught.

Kumu Nalani Kanaka`ole taught the `Ohe Kapala class.

The students proudly displayed and adorned their pau skirt that they made and printed, while a chant for putting on a pau skirt was being chanted by Nalani.

Nalani poses with Kei Inouye, kumu of Lima Nani Hula Studio from Japan who was one of her students, and with Maki, her beautiful daughter who also teaches the halau with her mom.

Dr. Tangaro Taupouri's Halau, Unukupukupu gave a breathtakingly exciting performance...

Mahalo nui loa to Desiree Cruz, the MC during the duration of the event, who was suave and delightful as always.

And with this, came the closing of the Moku O Keawe International Festival 2007.

Hope I'll get to see all of you again next year!

Aloha & Peace,

Watch Konishiki House on Happy Thanksgiving Day!

Aloha and Happy Thanksgiving Day!!!

Sending lots of aloha and mahalo on this special holiday!

This is a special day also because Sig Zane and his son Kuha`o will be appearing on Konishiki's TV program called "Konishiki House" tomorrow night. The show is a 30 minute program, and will air at 8:00pm, on KWHE TV 14 (Oceanic Channel 11), so please se your alarms so you can watch while gobbling on turkey (which I plan to do). The photo shows the take from Nalani Kanaka`ole's interview which was aired Nov. 8th earlier this month (I didn't get a chance to watch is since I was at the MOKIF event).

Anyway, wishing and sending you lots of aloha!

Love Reiko

Photo Album Auana Night at MOKIF 2007

Aloha Kakou!

This is the Photo Journal a la Reiko of the Moku O Keawe International Festival which happened... wow... already 2 weekends ago! (how time goes so fast, I'm telling you!)

Hope you enjoy it!

Love & Aloha,

On the left is the artist Kathy Long, who gave free art lessons during the day at the Market Place.

Nalani's `Ohe Kapala Workshop finished with a completed pau skirt. Some beautiful `ohe kapala prints by the participating students were an inspiration to see!

We were lucky to have had the opportunity to hear Nalani sing while the students printed their art works...
According to Nalani, this was so that they can focus more on their work...

Iliahi Anthony of Halau O Kekuhi did her `uli`uli workshop.

Dr. Tangaro Taupouri had his Puniu Drum Workshop.

Time to rehearse before the competition!

Exhibition dance.

Exhibition Dance with Maki Inoue and her students. The dance was dedicated to Aunty Pua Kanahele and Kumu Nalani Kanaka`ole, by Nani Lime Yap who coached the dancers.

Last year's winners, the ladies of Na Lei O Kaholoku danced a number. They had worked hard as production staff during the competition.

Behind the scenes shot of the stage, as all the kumu hulas of the participating halaus of the competition dance while awaiting the announcement.

The 2007 Competition Judges.

The ladies of Na Lei O Kaholoku, and their kumu hula Nani Lim Yap gather to accept the trophy for their feat as the first year winners of the MOKIF competition.

The Winnder was Hula Halau `O Leilani!
Their kumu, Mihoko Ogawa proudly holds the Tiffany & Co./Sig Zane collaborated trophy.

Congratulations Hula Halau `O Leilani!
