This dress I have on is the new Hikiki'i Dress, in the Monstera Relief Print. I love it... it's relaxed and stylish, perfect for that weekend gathering!

Hula & Hilo Honu Inn!

Aloha Kakou!
Hope your last week in October is going well. How time is really whizzing by!
At times like this, I just wish I could kick back, do nothing, and just relax at somebody else's house! Yup, and here is a perfect place, right up the Hala'i Hills, called the Hilo Honu Inn. This is a real gem of a Bed & Breakfast accommodation with a room and a view plus a Japanese style "ofuro" (deep sunken bathtub) which I would kill for! A beautiful Kama'aina style house, and within walking distance from downtown Hilo too.



The dining room is nice and cozy.

Isn't this a beautiful work of art? The delicate art work was all done in Japan according to Gay.

And the view from the suite is just gorgeous!

Here is the owner of the Hilo Honu Inn, Gay, who is also a hula dancer with the Halau Hula Halau 'o Kawananakoa, Alberta Nicholas, kumu.

Recently, at the 26th Annual Hawaii Kupuna Hula Festival (which draws 300 dancers, 17 halau in all, including seven from Japan, one from Korea, one from Maui, two groups from Oahu and six groups from the Big Island!), Gay had participated with her halau wearing the Sig Zane Designs' new sleeved style, Kiawelehua Dress.

The Sheraton Keauhou Bay Resort and Spa hosted both the competition and craft fair on Sept. 24-25. Over 1,600 people attended the two-day festival! And guess who placed Second, scoring 309.4 points ... it was Hula Halau O Kawananakoa! Congratulations and mahalo for sharing these fabulous photos taken of course by her wonderful husband!

They are going to be participating in the up-coming Moku O Keawe International Festival on November 7th, for the Kupuna Night, so keep your eyes open and look for the ladies in the Sig Zane dresses!

Yes, and that's me trying on the latest in the new style that just arrived! I was so excited with this new elegant number, I had to go and try it on, so I can show you "fans" out there! It's callsed the Uluauloa Dress, in tensel linen which is soft and comfortable. It will be available at the website store soon!
We also have the Kehau style in new prints and colors. It's one of our rare styles with pants (this always reminds me of the Vietnamese national outfit, Aodsai), so all you ladies who love the slacks-look, here they are for you!

Once Upon One Noddah Time @ Palace Theater!!!

There's an exciting and totally hilarious musical that's playing at the Palace Theater in downtown Hilo called "Once Upon One Noddah Time". Have you heard about it? Well, if the buzz haven't reached you yet (and if you are in Hilo), you should definitely go see it!

今、ヒロ、ダウンタウンに有るパレス・シアターでと～っても面白いミュージカルが上演されているんですよ～♪

The musical which was written by the late Lisa Matsumoto is about "fractured fairy tales told pidgin-style" (see the review on Hawaii-Tribune Herald), and brah, it really showcases choke local talents! One of my favorites is Desiree Moana Cruz , who is just perfect in her role, playing DA Queen.

さまざまなおとぎ話がピジン・スタイルでごちゃ混ぜになって展開していくミュージカルには、才能豊かな地元のキャストが参加しています。中でも元ミス・ハワイのデジレー・モアナ・クルズはかなりのはまり役。地元新聞の記事はこちらからどうぞ。

This all wouldn't be possible if it wasn't for the enormously talented Quack Moore, who conducts and plays the keyboards as the musical director. Hilo is just so lucky to have her!

音楽監督と指揮者を務めるのはクワック・モーア女史。彼女はパレス・シアターの役員会長を勤めパレスの復興運動に力を注いでいる人です。

彼女無しにはこのミュージカルもありえなかったでしょうね～♪

It's going to be playing this weekend and next weekend, Friday & Saturday @ 7:30pm, and Sunday Matinee @ 2:30pm. Don't miss it!!
