29th Annual Hawai'i Kupuna Hula Festival 2011!

 Aloha Kakou! Last week, I got my first chance to see the 

29th Annual Hawai'i Kupuna Festival at 

Shearton Keauhou Bay Resort & Spa
in Kailua-Kona, Hawai'i, and had a fab time.

アロ～ハ！先週9月14＆15日にハワイ島カイルア・コナ

にて開催された恒例第29回ハワイイ・クプナ・フェスティバル

を初めて観に行くことができました!

場所はシェラトン・ケアウホウ・ベイ・リゾート＆スパ

のコンベンション･ホールです。

 The Festival was held Sept. 14 & 15.

Wed 14th was the Individual Competition and 

Thur 15th was Group Competition. 

I only got to see the Group on Thursday but

it was great to see all the kupuna dancing away...

週中なので木曜日のグループ大会のみ観る事ができました。

水曜日はソロとホオラウレア、木曜日はグループでした。

とってもお元気なクプナ（といっても皆さんお若い!!）の

踊りを拝見しこちらも元気いっぱいになりました～！

 There were 9 halau from Japan! 

One of them was my friend's halau

Ka Pa Hula O Keolananilehua,

who participated in this competition for the first time.

日本からは9つのハーラウが参加！

こちらはお友達のハーラウ、

カ・パ・フラ・オ・ケオラナニレフア。

大会初挑戦で素晴らしい踊りを披露されました♪

 They danced beautifully, adorned in Sig Zane Designs dress

and beautiful lei with multi-colored lehua, 

they danced to the mele "Ka Lehua O Kilauea",

accompanied by Sonny Lim and Kevin Kealoha!

ドレスはシグ・ゼーン・デザインズのレフアマモ･プリント。

レイに使用されたレフアと完璧マッチした

色合いが素敵でした。

メレは「カ・レフア・オ・キラウエア」、音楽は

サニー・リムとケビン・ケアロハという強力美声デュオ。

with their Wahine Category's Third Place Awards!!!

Congratulations!!!!!

そして見事、初参加＆初挑戦ながら

ワヒネ・グループ第三位という素晴らしい成績を収めました～!!

アケミ・ミキ先生トハーラウの皆様、おめでとうございます～!♪

 The Overall Winner was Na Kupuna O Moana

who also won First Places for the Wahine & Mixed Category,

and Thrid Place for Tutu Kane.

They are from Moloka'i. Congratulations!!

総合優勝はモロカイ島からのベテラン・ハーラウ、

ナ・クプナ・オ・モアナでした。ワヒネと混合で一位、

そして男性ソロで三位という好成績で存在感ばっちり！

おめでとうございます!!!

 So many of the Kupuna dancers were NOT like kupuna, 

looking SO young and energetic!

本大会はクプナ、ということですが、とにかく

皆様本当に若々しく驚き！どこがクプナ？という感じ♪

Kumu Birdie Nicolas for the First Place Tutu Wahine

and Second Place Wahine Group Awards!!

They are from Keaukaha, Hilo! Yeay!!

そして女性ソロ一位とワヒネ・グループ 二位を受賞したのは

我が地元、ヒロのケアウカハ地区のハーラウ

フラ・ハーラウ・オ・カワナナコアとクム、バーディー・ニコラス！

おめでとうございます!!

and Kumu Keoni Jenny for

Tutu Kane First Place and Third Place Mixed Category!

こちらはハワイ島の

カワイマルヒア・フラ・スタジオとクムのケオニ・ジェニーさん等。

男性ソロ一位と混合三位でした！

おおめでとうございます!!

Kumu Lori Lei Shirakawa  for 

Tutu Kane and Mixed Group Second Place, and 

Kane Group First Place Awards!!!

こちらも同じくハワイ島、ナ・クプナ・オ・カウーと

クム、ロリ・レイ・シラカワさん等。男性ソロ二位、

そして男性グループ一位でした！

おめでとうございます!!

 Here is another group from Japan, 

Halau Hula Onaona O Ka Maile and Kumu Sachiko Tanaka 

who placed Second in Kane Group. Congratulations!

そしてもちら日本からの参加ハーラウ

ハーラウ・フラ・オナオナ・オ・カ・マイレとクム、サチコ・ウチダさん

が男性グループ で二位を受賞されました！

おめでとうございます！

 Here are the Kane Group who came in Third Place

from Na Leo Nahenahe O Na Kupuna, 

Kumu Rosemarie Dungca. Congratulations!

男性グループで三位に入賞したのはこちらのお二人。

ハーラウはナ・レオ・ナヘナヘ・オ・ナ・クプナ、

クムはローズマリー・ダンカさんです。

おめでとうございます！

Mahalo nui loa to all the Kumu, Dancers and Judges,

and to the MC Kahikiha who was made it extra fun!!!

Congratulations to ALL participants and a hui hou!

全てのクム、ダンサー、審査員、そしてMCのカヒキナさん、

楽しい一時を皆様ありがとうございました！
