A Chance to Hear Nalani!

Aloha Kakou!
Here is the place where you can hear a bit of Nalani's singing through NHK's Internet German Radio Program! Click on the word SO on the tab, and in about 15 secods later, you will hear Uta, the DJ, talking (in German), and you can hear some of Nalani's singing! This was made possible by a long time fan of Sig Zane Designs, and a friend of Sig's who is a resident of Hayama. Mahalo Uta for making this opportunity of getting Nalani's wonderful singing heard in Germany!

そろそろ梅雨も明けようとしている日本ではいかがお過ごしでしょうか?
ところで先日葉山で行われたナラニのライブがNHKのインターネットラジオ放送で少しですが聞くことができるのです!アドレスに辿り着いたら一番左のタブ「SO」をクリックしてください。そうすると15秒程してからDJのウタさんの声が聞こえてきます(因みにドイツ語です)。その後ナラニの歌声が多分聞こえてくると思いますので皆さん是非トライしてみてくださいね!!今回このような形でナラニの歌声がドイツならずとも世界中で聞けるようになったのは、長年シグ・ゼーン・デザインズのファンでありシグのお友達でもある葉山在住のウタさんのお陰です。ウタさん、有難うございます！

Amami Additional

Aloha Kakou!
Here is a rare sight, a performance at the Akagina Jr. Hight School in Amami. While Nalani sang, Sig and Kuha`o danced a couple of auana songs (like "Ka Uluwehi O Ke Kai"), and the kids just loved it.
アローハ!
これは珍しい奄美大島の赤木名中学校でのパフォーマンスです。シグとナラニとシグの息子のクハオも踊りを披露しました。中学生達の反応はすごく良かったです!


In return, they performed their Shima-Uta (which is their local "Island Song" style, similar to Okinawan style, but totally unique to Amami) and we all danced to it. What fun!
お返しに、中学校の生徒と島唄のパフォーマンスで皆で踊り盛り上がりました。楽しかったです～！


This is Mugen and Kurenai, the owners of Yumekurenai Ceramics Gallery and Cafe, in Amami. Because Mugen is the PTA Chairman of the school and also his daughter is a student there, this special project came alive! Arigassama Aryota (or Mahalo in Amami dialect) Mugen and Family for your supporting the performing arts!

こちらは夢元さんと紅さん、「陶工房夢紅」のオーナーご夫妻です。本当に素敵なご夫妻なんで大ファンになりました!夢元さんが赤木名中学校のPTA会長さん、そしてお二人のお嬢さんがここの生徒会長さんなんで、今回のこのスペシャルプロジェクトが可能になったんですね。本当に色々お世話になりありがっさまありょーた(奄美の言葉で有難うございました、の意)!

Hayama Mama!

Aloha!
Well, Nalani rocked Hayama! Wish all of you could of been there to listen and enjoy, but at least, you can see what it was like! The braddha musicians Jason and Glennon helped to bring out the sweet music, and the audience were in it for a treat. Nalani sang some of her original songs that she has written, and some by her mom, Edith Kanaka'ole. And with "Summertime" closing the tour... What a night to remember!

葉山でのナラニのライブは絶好調でした！皆様にお聞かせできないのが残念ですが、せめて写真で雰囲気だけでもご堪能ください！ジェーソンとグレノン、という二人の最高のミュージシャンに支えられ、ナラニが披露したのは、彼女のオリジナルや母、イーディス・カナカオレの名曲の数々。そして最後は｢サマータイム」・・・余韻の残る素晴しいライブとなったのでした～！

Aloha Cat Lovers!

Aloha to All Cat Lovers!
This cute little kitty stole my heart as she peaked through the door at a shaved ice parlor in Amami! It was so hot, we decided to quench our thirst at Hayato's friend's place by eating shaved ice. Hayato is our friend and owner of the very nice stores in Hayama (Sunshine + Cloud), and Daikanyama, Tokyo (G.O.D.), who invited Nalani and her boys to perform in Japan.
Just wanted to share this photo with you all...

猫好きの皆様へ、アローハ！
もうこの可愛い子猫ちゃんにやられてしまいました(にゃー)!余りにも暑かったのではやとさんのお友達のかき氷屋さんのところへ立ち寄った時出会ったんです。はやとさんは葉山のSunshine+Cloudと東京、代官山にあるG.O.D.というお店の社長さんで今回ナラニのライブの企画をされた張本人(!?)なんですよ～！
この猫ちゃん写真をちょっとお見せしたかったので…

This majestic Banyan Tree is 600 years old! Nalani and the musicians relax under the tree, before heading out to Akagi Junior High School to perform for their First Special Music Appreciation Class.

この貫禄のガジュマルの木はなんと樹齢600年なのだそうです。ナラニとミュージシャン達は赤木中学校での初の芸術鑑賞の授業のパフォーマンスを前にガジュマルの木下でリラックス。

Peaceful Sea Kaihala`i Frist!

Aloha!
The maiden voyage tour of Nalani's Peaceful Sea Kaihala`i in Amami and Hayama Tour had it's successful start with Nalani's chant opening the tour, as the typhoon neared the islands! So the ocean was rough and it was very windy, but nevertheless, the weather held up and Nalani and her band wooed the audience at Yume Kurenai, in Amami.
It was sure a night to remember!

さて、ナラニの処女航海ツアー、平和な海・カイハライ・イン奄美＆葉山ツアーがナラニのチャントにより絶好な滑り出しを致しました。台風が接近して奄美大島の海もツアータイトルに反してかなり荒れた海だったのですが、幸運にもお天気には恵まれコンサート初日を夢紅にて迎えることができました!とっても思い出に残る夜となりました！

Amami mon Amour!

It's been a long time since I've updated my blog, and I'm back!
I was in Amami Oshima in Japan with Nalani, Sig, Kuha`o and Nalani's two musicians, Jason and Glennon. What a beautiful place that is... Just felt right at home, like I was in Hawai'i (Jason said it felt like Molokai)!
And boy, I have so many photos to share with you, so please look forward to my adventures in Amami and more!

アローハ！お久しぶりです!しばらくインターネットのない生活をしておりましたのでご無沙汰しておりましたが、これから又毎日更新していきますので楽しみにしていてくださいね！実は奄美大島、という本当に素晴しいところへナラニ、シグ、クハオ、それからナラニのミュージシャンの二人、ジェーソン、とグレノンと行ってきました。なんだかまるでハワイに居るような(ジェーソンはモロカイ島に居るようだ、と言っていました）錯覚に陥るほど自然と海の美しいところですっかり魅了されてまいりました。お見せしたい写真がたくさんあるのでお楽しみに・・・

皆様へ、アロ～ハ!
今日、ハワイ時間の7月7日(日本では七夕の日でしたね!)はハワイ火山国立公園方面はとても良い天気。
真っ赤なオヒア・レフアの花が行く先々で満開で、それはそれは綺麗でしたよ!
それはそうと、当社ウェブサイトがちょっと作業中ですので只今ご覧になっていただくことができませんが(ハワイ時間7月7日22：00現在)、こちらのブログでしばし暇をつぶしていただけましたら幸いです！

Malama i Ka `Aina!

Aloha Everyone!
Another photo from the day we visited the Kamehameha Estate. If you see closely, you can see that the tree on the right has the red lehua flowers, and the tree on the left has the yellow lehua flowers! They were really something else! The beauty of our environment on our island captured in these photos, made me want to mention about the most recent movie I saw, "An Inconvenient Truth". This is a documentary film with former Vice President, Al Gore, attacking the issues of global warming. If you haven't seen it, you owe it to yourself to go see it, because the message is so clear and powerful... that we all must take responsibility if we want to live on this earth! In Hilo, it's playing at the Palace Theather and will feature 2 short films ("Malama i Ka `Aina").
Hope we all get to pass on the beauty of our `aina to our future generations!

アローハ!
上の写真は先日カメハメハ財団所有地での課外授業の際に撮ったオヒア・レフアの木の写真です。右の木には赤いレフアの花、左の木には黄色のレフアの花、ととても美しく咲いていて思わずおおー、と写真を撮りました。そこで是非皆様へも日本で公開されたら観て頂きたい映画をご紹介いたします。米国元副大統領のアル・ゴア氏が地球温暖化についてあらゆる問題を追及したドキュメンタリー映画、｢都合の悪い真実（原題：An Inconvenient Truth)」。これからの地球の行く末を考えたら一人の地球人として見ない訳にはいかない内容です。これはもう観るしかありません！ヒロではパレスシアターで上映しており、同時にショートフィルムも上映されます(マラマ・イ・カ・アイナ）。
私たちのこの美しいアイナ（ハワイ語で土地、という意味です）を次世代の人々へ受け渡すことができますように！

A Wonderful Day in Nature

Aloha kakou!What a wonderful time we all had on Thursday June 29! Mahalo to Keala who had kindly guided us into the amazing sprawl of natural habitat that he takes care for the Kamehameha Estate.
皆様アロ～ハ!６月２９日、早速野外授業へ行ってまいりました。カメハメハ・スクールが所有している土地を管理しているケアラさんに案内していただきました。マハロ!

It was a beautiful day as well and we were able to see the great Mauna Loa clearly as we elevated ourselves to the 6,000 ft. level.
素晴しいお天気に恵まれて、マウナロア山がくっきりと標高２千メートル付近からも見えました。

Some of the plants that we got to see on the way were a type of berry like this, which is called the akale! Isn't it cute?
珍しい植物も色々お目見えしましたよ。こちらはアカラと呼ばれるイチゴのような実のなる植物。可愛いでしょ?

I caught Nalani making an instant lei with the maile, which she draped it over her ear. The perfect accessory in a forest!
ナラニがマイレの葉で飾りを作り、耳に飾っているのをキャッチ！森の中でのちょっとしたおしゃれに脱帽!
